Telephone answering service - how best to access client info

Hi
I'm due to starting offering local businesses a reception/telephone answering service and I would be grateful if anyone could let me know what people offering similar services use to hold client information that can be easily accessed as and when each call comes through.

Initially, I could use an excel spreadsheet but does anyone know of any online/cloud-based software that would help. Maybe even allowing clients to update their 'file' as and when?
