There is a full manual on th SJphone site but it's really very easy.

Click on the options button in the middle of the phone
Select Profiles and then New. Call it Voipfone, name not critical.
Choose Calls through SIP proxy.
You only need to fill in proxy domain and user domain on the SIP Proxy tab. "sip.voipfone.net" for both. And lower down Proxy for NAT. "sip.voipfone.net" and port 5060.

You could also change the skin (on skins tab) to the default one - just hit browse. I think it looks better.

If SJ introduced a few nice features missing in the X-Lite - like 3-way calling - they'd do very well. I wonder why they don't?

SJphone -- very poor speech quality

#8
I just tried SJphone. It works, but the received audio quality is atrocious -- the audio sounds very "rough" and "gravelly", for want of better words.

I am using a 2Mbps NTL broadband connection, working at full speed with no other traffic on it.

Audio quality with my Sipura 2100 (and also with Skype) on the same link is excellent, so I am certain there is no problem with the broadband or with the PC speed.

Ideas anyone?

Do you find poor audio quality with all softphones or just SJphone? I posted this elsewhere on Voipfone's forum.
Nick_Russell wrote:I have similar experience. PC-to-PC SIP calls are fine. Loud and clear using X-Lite and SJphone. Maybe a bit better with SJphone but marginal. Skype-Skype calls also very clear.

I have the same quality problems using X-Lite and SJPhone for PC-to-landline calls. No echo or feedback but not very clear. I can live with it but it is nothing like as good as PC-to-PC.

Skype-to-landline calls are much better quality and there is no difference between Skype-to-landline and Skype-to-Skype calls.

I realise Skype uses a non SIP protocol but it does seem to give clearer calls. Is this a SIP issue or the way Voipfone connects to landlines? I haven't tried another SIP provider so I don't know.

Only with SJphone. X-Lite and Skype (and my Sipura 2100) all work perfectly, with excellent audio quality.

Has anyone tried the SJphone for Windows Mobile 2003se? or the X-Lite's one for that matter.

I tried on my Imate Jam, but it refused to install

If it's any good then I might bother to keep trying to get it to work.

Hi,

I was just thinking about downloading the SJ phone software but wondered if the audio quality issue had been resolved.

Is anyone using SJ phone that doesn't have a problem with poor audio quality? If so, I just might give it a try. I'm just getting to grips with X-Lite, so would prefer not to have to start again only to find the audio quality is too bad to make it useful.

Thanks for any comments.

Cheers,

Tracy

We have had very few reports of call quality problems with the SJphone; if X-Lite works for you there's no reason at all that the SJ won't. There's no risk in trying anyway as it's free.

Don't forget tho,' only one phone will register on one account so just exit the X-Lite if you're using the same account to test the SJPhone.

Is there a ringer for this.

I have it all working except no bell on the phone?

Using latest beta on Linux.

Perhaps, someone can confirm that there is a ringer (ie a telephone bell) on this software?
