Snom 360 goes to Password prompt

#1
After a couple of hours of inactivity, my Snom 360 phones all display a "Password" prompt (even though they have the correct login details). When they are waiting for the password they can still receive calls.

The password prompt is cleared and the phone behaves normally if the cancel button is pressed.

Anyone else getting this?

we have been aware of this problem and we are hoping that the network upgrades that we have been doing all weekend will resolve many of these annoying little quirks

Forgetful snoms

#3
I have the password problem on a snom 320, and another problem also.

Without giving too much away, all of the SIP registration passwords for my extensions (3xxxxx*200) are fairly simple four digit numbers. However, my main number (3xxxxxx) has as its SIP registration password the six digit password for the whole account.

About once a day, the snom forgets the six digit number, and inserts a four digit number instead.

I replace the four blobs with the correct six digit number, press save and reboot. Everything is happy again for a while.

Weird.

you should really have this phone set as an extension and not connected to your main account all connected phones on your PBX should be assigned an extension number

I'm not hallucinating then!

Some of our Snoms have been losing their passwords. The fact that it's got worse over the past few days, and now much better again, makes me think it's got something to do with registration failures.

What I think is happening is that if the Snom fails to register after a certain number of attempts, it throws a hissy fit and decides to trash the password. It usually puts it to a 3 or 4 character password (though, of course, I can't tell what!).

Bloody annoying. Anyone got any ideas of how to fix it?

Here's another take on it.

All the network changes since Sunday have caused the Snoms to throw up the passord authentication screen from time to time, if you notice this and press cancel (X) or 'esc' all is well.

However, if you normally answer the phone by hitting the OK or 'tick' button like me when I'm using the headset, but don't see password request, you accept the call ok but delete your password.

I've done it twice now!

However, the network is now very stable so you should see the Snoms settle down. If you don't please post back here.

yes i get this too. but one thing i have noticed is that both my Snom 360's have different versions of code on them.

is there a recent stable version of code which voipfone recommend which i can deploy to all my phones? and would this help the problem?

We recommend using version 4.5 of Snom's software - version 5 and above still seems to cause odd problems.

On the password front, we have been testing a Snom setting for a few days which so far seems to have solved it.

http to your Snom
go to 'advanced' in the yellow side banner
under 'phone behaviour'
turn 'Challenge Response on Phone' to off
save and reboot

Let us know whether this works for you.
