NR on display - no dial tone :(

#1
Hi all

Signed-up for voipfone last week

Bought and installed a Snom 300 on friday - worked a treat right out of the box so was very happy then.
Did not used it at all on saturday. Come sunday there is no dial-tone at all and the display on the Snom simply states NR.

Unplugged the ethernet lead and the power and reconnected them. The phone goes through its initialisation and flashes the message "Ethernet cable unplugged" although clearly it is not!
Its wired into one of my Cisco 8-port managed switches, which in turn is wired to my router (no wireless - all fully wired 10/100/1000 network).
I tested internet connectivity - no problems there. All other network devices are working happily

The Snom firmware is the default install as supplied by Voipfone (6.x.x), as are its settings and config.

I'd rather not have to go through the pain of rebooting my router as it does cause havoc amongst my entire network (in addition to the downtime it causes on my web servers)...so before i do pull the plug is there anything else i can do/check.

THanks

Please check the IP of the phone - Press: down, up, then the tick key.

Enter the IP into a web browsers address bar on your computer.

Select 'System Information' on the left - You should see 'Identity 1 Status' - What does it say after your account information?

"Network Failure"

This is from memory so the status message may be longer, but certainly it did feature these words when investigating it yesterday - i'm out on site today so cannot check the equipment at the present time.

I would have posted this message yesterday when i first spotted the problem, however i could not access these forums yesterday morning - i just got a generic "These forums are not available" message - so i had (wrongly) assumed that perhaps there had been some network downtime/maintenance at your end.

OK - under 'Identity 1' on the left - Please enter nat.voipfone.co.uk:5065 into the outbound proxy box - click save & re-register.

Our forums did undergo some work over the weekend, but our website and all telephone services were fully operational.

Hi
I obviously spoke too soon.

I come back home today (having been away for 24hr) and again my display is saying NR.

I get the same when i reboot the phone.

When i access the phones web interface it is giving the same message under system information / identity1
<accountnumber>@sip.vopifone.co.uk: Network Failure.

I would appreciate some more help on this one

Thanks

Barry

It's not able to reach our network.. Probably because of a DNS problem.

Do you know what DNS servers the phones using? - you can check on the advanced page.

You could turn off DHCP and set DNS server 1 to 208.67.222.222

DHCP is currently on.
The DNS server 1 is 192.168.0.1 ie my router.
DNS server 2 is 208.67.222.222

I've added the Snom MAC into my router static addresses to fix its IP

Presumably if i turn off DHCP and set DNS 1 to be 208.67.222.222 then i should be okay with the IP fixed as static?

I will give your suggestion a try out.

Interestingly once it has rebooted it still flashes up the message "ethernet cable unplugged", however it has now connected back onto the voipfone service.

THe question is, will it remain connected?

Thanks again for the assistance
