50% packet loss to sip.voipfone.co.uk

Hi,

I am on the Virginmedia network and ever since this morning the Linksys 941 has been unregistering at an alarming rate, its just done ot now. Just done a ping to sip.voipfone.co.uk and getting large packet loss:

Pinging sip.voipfone.co.uk [195.189.173.10] with 32 bytes of data:

Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Reply from 195.189.173.10: bytes=32 time=29ms TTL=54
Reply from 195.189.173.10: bytes=32 time=19ms TTL=54

Ping statistics for 195.189.173.10:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 2, Lost = 2 (50% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 19ms, Maximum = 29ms, Average = 24ms

Is anyone else on Virgin experincing the same?

The PING test as you have done only shows that half the packets sent were lost on the way to its destination (i.e. sip.voipfone.co.uk ) To find out where the problem occurs you have to use either of the following :

TRACERT <ipaddress>
PATHPING <ipaddress>

PATHPING is more accurate but you will probably get an idea of where the problem is. You can also use Visual Route 2008 software to get a visual picture of where the packets are getting lost or timing out.

The problem is likely to be either be in your local network, your ISP or VOIPFONE, the above will help pin point this.
