Latest from Gamma is that the porting agreement has been signed and it's all currently in the testing phase. The eta *was* for the "new year", but at last check they're now not even willing to give a en eta :(

It's £20 per number - info here but not updated with Virgin info yet.

Email porting at voipfone co uk with the number and we'll send you what we need. The process is not fully automated yet so bear with us a little.

Change of plan. I am deferring porting from NTL until you get 1471 working. After more than TWO years of asking (I first raised this with you in March 2006), you STILL don't have even a basic 1471 service working!

1471 still doesn't tell me the number that most recently called, and still has no date/timestamp.

As you wish :-)

btw: 1471 does give the last number called; if you want more info such as time stamp; it's in your account and also in your phone if you use a snom.

I beg to differ. Before sending yesterday's message, I called one of my Voipfone numbers from NTL, to make sure of my facts. 1471 on the Voipfone gave me a totally different number that had called me some time previously.

And I don't want to have to go on line to find out when someone called me. I want to pick up the phone, dial 1471, and be told that such-and-such a number called me at such-and-such a day and such-and-such a time. Just like every other phone company does!

Would you mind testing that ever each call you receive today - we can find nothing wrong with it.

I have now done the following:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Dialled 1471 on one of my Voipfone phones ("Phone 1"), to find out what Voipfone thought was the last number to call it. It was 2131xxxxxx. Meaningless.
2. Called Phone 1 from my NTL phone. Stopped the call before Phone 1 answered. Dialled 1471 on Phone 1. Still the same meaningless 2131xxxxxx.
3. Called Phone 1 from my NTL phone. Allowed the call to connect. Dialled 1471 on Phone 1. Still the same meaningless 2131xxxxxx.
4. Called Phone 1 from my Orange cell phone. Stopped the call before Phone 1 answered. Dialled 1471 on Phone 1. Still the same meaningless 2131xxxxxx.
5. Called Phone 1 from my Orange cell phone. Allowed the call to connect. Dialled 1471 on Phone 1. Still the same meaningless 2131xxxxxx.
6. Called Phone 1 from my No 2 Voipfone phone. Stopped the call before Phone 1 answered. Dialled 1471 on Phone 1. Still the same meaningless 2131xxxxxx.
7. Called Phone 1 from my No 2 Voipfone phone. Allowed the call to connect. Dialled 1471 on Phone 1. Still the same meaningless 2131xxxxxx.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

In each case I dialled the geographical number assigned to Phone 1 (020 71xx xxxx).

In each case, 1471 reported the same meaningless number.

Looking on-line at the call records, none of the missed calls were reported. Why not?

All three calls that I allowed to connect were listed as received calls. ALL THREE OF THESE CALLS WERE NUMBER WITHHELD. Is that why 1471 did not work?

The number 2131xxxxxx is read out sometimes when the callers number is withheld. Apologies for this.

If you call with your number available, you should find it reads out the number

Now THAT is *REALLY* helpful and user-friendly. NOT!

When are you going to fix this, AND add a timestamp?

I'm pretty sure my PTSN 1471 service doesnt tell me the number when the number has been withheld. Why are you asking voipfone to do something that even PTSN providers cant?

OK, let's make it easy for Voipfone.

Somewhere in Voipfone's Centrex there will be software that responds to a subscriber calling 1471. This software should look something like this:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Get details of the most recent call to the subscriber. These details should either be in the "Received Calls" list or in the "Missed Calls" list.
2. If we have a calling phone number, say to the subscriber: "You were called by <number> at <time> <today|yesterday|last Monday|last Tuesday ...>."
3. If we do not have the calling phone number, say to the subscriber: "You were called at <time> <today|yesterday|last Monday|Tuesday ...>. We do not have the caller's number."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Is that really so difficult? C'mon, Colin, surely you can persuade one of your programmers to plug in the necessary couple dozen lines of code to do this?

It's over 10 years since I heard a 1471 message from BT, but 1471 messages from NTL Virgin sound more or less like the above. It's the very least I would expect of the service.

What I *don't* want is a phony phone number that purports to represent "Number Withheld". And I *do* want to know when the caller called (even if the number was withheld, and even if the call was missed). Just like with the real phone companies!

When we actually do get the roundtuit it will probably also say press x to return the call.

But it's just not a priority at the moment - we'll get it done when we can.

No problem. And when you've done it, I'll port my NTL number to Voipfone :D
