WiFi Vs wired

I have had a UTStarcom F3000 for about a year, but rarely use it because of the continuous disconnects (you need to re-boot the phone, and wait an age for it to register, every time to use it).

My question is, can I connect a "wired" handset into the ethernet port on my laptop, which is in turn connected to my D-Link WAP by wireless, or does a wired handset have to plugged directly into my router?

Any advice would be welcome.

You can use windows internet connection sharing and a crossover ethernet cable - to get a wired device to connect to your laptop which in turn connects wirelessly to the internet.

Another option is to use some 'Home Plug Networking' - power adaptors which send your network through the electricity wiring.
