SJPhone set-up instructions.

#1
We've decided that we like the free SJPhone softphone. It does everything our free X-Lite phone does and some more; like conference calling, Do Not Disturb and a phone book that works properly.

If you'd like to try it get it via the link below:

Windows http://www.sjphone.org/softphone/SJphone-289a.exe

Linux http://www.sjphone.org/softphone/SJphoneLnx-299a.tar.gz

Mac http://www.sjphone.org/softphone/SJphoneMac-299a.dmg

http://www.sjlabs.com/sjp.html

User Manual here:

http://www.sjlabs.com/doc/SJphone%20Guide.pdf

Set-up Instructions

1. Download the softphone and install it
2. Click on menu, then options.
3. Choose Profiles and click NEW
4. Enter your name (this can be anything)
5. Ignore the file field and choose "Calls through SIP proxy" from the 'profile type' drop down menu and click OK
6. In the new window that opens called "Profile Options" open the tab called SIP Proxy, enter sip.voipfone.net in the Domain box and sip.voipfone.net in the User Domain box. Press OK.
7. In the new pop up window that opens called"service" enter your 8 digit voipfone number (3xxxxxxx) in the account box and your 6 digit password in the password box. Click OK.

Your phone should now register

8. Make a test call to 155.

If your phone does not register:

9. Click on the tool symbol or right click on the phone to open the Options window
10. Click on Profiles and then on the name of the new profile you have just created (it will be 'in use'.)
11. Click Edit, then SIP Proxy
12. In the Nat Proxy box enter sip.voipfone.net and in the next box 5060
13. Click Ok then Ok again.
14. Try your test call to 155 again.

Thanks to Nick Russel for making us look at this phone again.

SJphone - PDA calls

#2
I've configured SJphone for my wifi enabled PDA.

It registers onto voipfone ok but when I call my 0560 no. I just get an engaged tone. If I try to make a call to an 0845 no. (f2s voip no.), I get a message saying I have 498min. of calls remaining and $0.00 call credit. this seems to just happen when making SIP-SIP calls as I can ring a landline ok.

anyone got any ideas?

In step 6. I think you need to add Lower down in section Proxy for NAT enter "nat.voipfone.co.uk" and port 5065.

Also you have to click on "Use" button to activate the new profile before you OK and exit

Thanks Nick - it's not always necessary to use the proxy so it's best to try without first.

It's worth pointing out that with this phone you can dial straight from the contacts in Microsoft Outlook.

To do this just click on the green telephone icon on the phone, then the Outlook Contacts tab, then double click the number.

Yes the basic one. The others are the same but pre-configured for specific providers.

When you install go to skins in set up, then browse to change, and select default. It looks much better.

The only way we know is to register - it's not difficult or dangerous to do.

Voipfone are too quick for me!!!

Simply register and you get sent a key that will enable you to remove the popup box. This key is for up to 5 installations so you can install on 5 PCs with the same key. If you need more I guess you have to register with a different email address.

When you get email with registration details click on link and you are directed to a page with key. Copy this then go to Register in set up and there will be a "paste" option that will fill in key in one step.

Sorted. :D

It works fine for Linux does this mean that there is no X-Lite for Linux, as I would like to try that as well.

SJ Phone for WM5

#12
There is a beta version of SJPhone for Windows Mobile 5. I've downloaded it and got it to actually open on my HTC Universal (Orange SPV M5000 in the UK) which is better than every other Voip client I've tried on my Universal!!!!!

Problem is I'm kinda stuck with the settings. I've tried using the config from here, which I know is meant for the PC version, but I figured the configuration must be similar. I'm not getting very far though.

Can someone post up instructions for the WM5 version please? If I can use my voipfone aacount on the roll in London tomorrow I'll be the happiest Mexican in the world!!!!!!!!

Interesting question. I moved to SJPhone from X-Lite 2 as it was much easier to configure and address book was much easier to use and setup.

X-Lite 3.0 is a vast improvement on X-Lite 2.0. I understand this is based on eyeBeam and not an upgrade to the old X-Lite. It also supports video, but I believe the new SJPhone will support video as well.

I would say that apart from the video advantage of X-Lite 3.0, there is now very little to choose between the two. One slight advantage for SJPhone could be the ability to have several SIP profiles setup. The new X-Lite will only allow one SIP profile at a time.

Sorry guys. I've tried a few times to register and it won't resolve the URL (http://labs.softjoys.com/reg/?r_pid=1 - The connection was refused when attempting to contact labs.softjoys.com.)

Are SJPhone still in business? I really like the phone, but the pop up is very annoying...

Aklternatively, how do I get conference calling with your current recommendation zoiper. Are there any other free alternatives?

Thanks in advance.
