Config Details for Cisco 7940/7960

#1
These settings have been donated by Henry - many thanks

Got it working at last Very Happy

With some assistance from Voipfone tech support, we decided to DISABLE the outbound proxy... now works fine behind my Linksys WAG54G:

# Outbound Proxy info

outbound_proxy: "UNPROVISIONED"

outbound_proxy_port: ""

To help others, these are my complete (and now working config files for my Cisco 7940) I'm pretty sure that they will also work for the Cisco 7960.

Hope this helps others, Henry

Uploading the 7940 config.

#2
This may sound a little dense, but there is no detail on how to upload the config for the 7940 phone. Do the config files listed require uploading or downloading via TFTP? How do you configure the phones IP services for LAN and TFTP services?

Can anyone supply a quick crib sheet on getting started?

Thanks in advance

Stuart

Hi Stuart,

Sorry I've been away for a while and missed some posts to this area.

Yes you do have to use a TFTP server then download them onto your Cisco Phone, I used a free TFTP program http://solarwinds.net which runs on windows. The upgrade process is a bit long winded but I used the following guide to slowly upgrade from one firmware version to a slightly newer firmware version (I'm now on sip 8.6)

http://www.it4u2.com/asterisk2.htm

Just remember that when you are editing these config files, with your own line details, passwords etc, use a proper text editor. To start with I used windows Notepad and had no end of problems as I could not load the files correctly. I now use a program called Edit Pad Lite http://www.editpadpro.com which works well for me.

I'm currently working on some slightly “cleaner” Cisco 7940/60 config files, so will post these up here when done. Thanks also to "WelshPaul" for the link to the diffrent versions of firmware for the Cisco phone (usefull as I had lost some of these previous versions)

Good luck,

Henry

Re: Config Details for Cisco 7940/7960

#11
Due to a voipfone software update last month our Cisco 7940 and 7960 phones call forward stoped working. I spoke to the very helpful support team and they have come up with the solution. In the phone settings (either SIPipaddress.cnf or SIPDefault.cnf depending on your setup you need to set the outbound proxy as follows:

# Outbound Proxy info can also use 195.189.173.10 if you have DNS dramas

outbound_proxy: "sip.voipfone.co.uk"

outbound_proxy_port: ""

This works with firmware v 8.12 but it currently only allows for the blind transfer by pressing # twice then the number. Voipfone have said that they indend to do another software update which should have the phones menu transfer working in the near future.

Re: Config Details for Cisco 7940/7960

Just to inform anyone wishing to set up the Cisco phones - Firmware version 8.2 is what the phone seems to be working with.

Re: Config Details for Cisco 7940/7960

I appretiate this is quite an old post, however thank you very much for posting these config settings. Worked a charm for me!

I have the 7960.

The only differences I made were:

- Changed '7940' to '7960' wherever I could see it.
- added lines 3, 4, 5 and 6 (as the 7960 has 6 lines as opposed to 2 lines on thr 7940)

I then tested that all functions worked (making/receiving calls, voicemails etc), then I edited the general config settings to adapt to what I personally need.

Thanks again, and if anyone has any questions about the 7960 set up, don't hesitate to get in touch and i'll try my best! :D
