ODBC access to Call Detail Records?

#1
We have a need to be able to analyse the performance of our telesales team in relation to the number, frequency and duration of outbound calls they're making.

At present, I have to navigate through the site to the CDR section, display the relevant month, download the CSV file, and then massage it in Excel to provide the report I need.

This is OK for weekly or monthly reports, but we now want to be able to see daily or even realtime reports.

I can set up an Excel chart that shows me the distribution of calls during a day, with durations, for each member of the telesales team. Powerful stuff.

Here's how I'd *like* to do it ... I'd set up the report in Excel, linked via ODBC to the relevant data directly at Voipfone. The ODBC Data Source would be set up on my PC to quote my user authorisation stuff, so that access would still be secure.

All I'd then need to do is to refresh the data, and it would run the ODBC query again and redisplay the chart on my screen. Bingo - realtime charts of telesales team performance.

I'm assuming that the data is held in a database at Voipfone - probably in MySQL - and that there are ODBC drivers available for it.

Is this possible?

I have a number of clients who provide accomodation either B&B or Student. We would like to be able to provision a phone in each room and be able to get a realtime view of there bill.

From a sales point of view there must be plenty of hotels/b&B's who have to provide telephones in the rooms to maintain there star rating, but with the spread of mobile phones dont get a revenue stream to pay for a PBX.

These are the sort of ideas that should be happening to push voipfone forwards. I have been asking for a long time for some sort of external access to our account information such as call records, cli, address book etc to allow call popping and the such. I am really keen to be able to access an sdk to allow me to create software for my clients to allow them to have call presence, call popping etc. This could also provide access to the call records and billing.

All our acconts produces real time call records which can be accessed at any time to produce a bill for any telephone. If you used an extension from our PBX for each room you would be able to do what you need quite easily.

An SDK is something we're thinking about but at the moment it's not at the top of our list.

Billing solution

yes you can get all the information via the control panel. However it very labour intensive. What we need is direct access to the records either via odbc or maybe xml.

This would allow all sorts of applications to be developed which would sell your services you could even charge for the add on.

I have even offered to write various apps free of charge such as call popping etc but no one ever replies, I am desperate to have this and unfortunately looking for other ways to do this, even if it means movign away.

We do reply Gobby, you just don't like our answer

We want to do it and we probably will do it - but we haven't got the resources at the moment.

If you have a client who is willing to develope and application and other clients who may be able to develope there own solutions would it not make sense to make available an odbc link or maybe even a password protected rss feed with the billing detail in the feed. Its then upto the clients to do as they wish with data.

From a personal point of view I would rather your developers get the IVR sorted and then move onto data exchange. Do you have a beta release date for the IVR

You only reply to say you don't have time and other things are more important.

I don't see you needing much time your end to do this, most of the information is contained on the account management section of your website. The only thing further required is call status, i.e user off hook, on hook, current call and inbound cli on calls coming in.

I am still willing to work with you to complete a windows based app which isn't web based, I hate running permanent web apps on my systems as I always accidentally close them.

You wouldn't even have to dedicate much time to it either and it could be a community based development pushing your services forwards.

My problem is that i am not a php developer, I can manage databases though.

I guess the acid test is to ask how many people require this and are they willing to pay and then get the voipfone or a contractor to write it.

The alternative is to run a softpbx where the client can access the logs locally. There is then no requirement for voipfone to provide any additional services.
