X-Lite 3.0 and video

#1
I have just been trying to get the new X-Lite to work with video. I can get Skype video OK and X-Lite audio is OK and very clear but it won't send video.

I had a thought is it a codec problem? X-Lite uses the video codec H263 - does Voipfone support this? If so are there any set up changes I should make to get X-Lite to send video?

Thanks
Nick

What has happened to Voipfone support? No answer to this post and when I contacted support by email I got a one line reply back saying X-Lite does not support video - do I mean EyeBeam?

PS message to support - NO, I don't mean eyeBeam I mean X-Lite 3.0

Nothing's happened to Voipfone Support, we're still here!

However, we don't sell the X-Lite3 or use it ourselves so we don't know the answer to your question yet. Someone here will have sussed it, I'm sure.

When they do we'll put the answer in the knowledge base.

Welcome back !!!

Have a look at X-Lite 3.0. I was a great fan of SJPhone but I've now switched back to X-Lite with version 3.0. Version 2.0 for Windows is not available from Counterpath any more so you will have to change your guides and wizzard I guess.

With my video question, does Voipfone support codec H263? And if not, is any particular codec support necessary for video to work?

Thanks
Nick

This is obviously too difficult so let me rephrase......

1) Does Voipfone support codec H263?

2) Is support for this codec necessary for video to work on ANY softphone (X-Lite, eyeBeam etc) on Voipfone?

There...is that better?

I await a response!

Regards
Nick

Not sure why they've not responded to you, as I think the answer is pretty quick and simple ...

Voipfone have never made any claims to support video, and don't interoperate with any video codecs. The supported codec list is in the FAQ in this Forum - direct link at:
http://www.voipfoneuserforum.com/about884.html

At present, the V in Voipfone stands for Voice, not Video. I've not heard anything to suggest that they're planning on changing this anytime soon.

Interesting. I have just asked CS at Voipfone whether Xlite 3.0 will work using video.

They have replied saying "Yes, it will work just fine".

I would like to know one way or the other as the video component is quite important to me.

I have a Voipfone account + Xlite 3, if anyone would like to try to call using Xlite with video, drop me a PM to arrange.

Best regards

Grahame

Just for the hell of it, I opened up a Free World Dialup account and persuaded a friend to do the same.

Guess what - video works fine with X-Lite 3.0.

So my unanswered question for Voipfone remains (see above) - do you support video?

We Implemented video about 2 years ago and no one has ever used it to date.

Due to the fact that the video service has never been used it has never been updated or maintained as part of our main service.

so to answer your questions we have no idea if it works with the new eyebeam and xlite all you can do is try it out if it don't work then please provide us with as much info as possible and we will look in to it.

Welcome back support; hope you had a good holiday!

I am by no means an expert on the intricacies of VoIP. X-Lite talks about video codec being H263 and H263:1998. Do you support these? They are not listed on the list of codecs you mention elsewhere on this forum.

With FDW and X-Lite 3.0 video worked fine. The codec issue may be a red herring - see below from a FWD help page.

What codecs does FWD support?

All codecs will pass through FWD, but FWD servers support G711 (PCMU) only
Can you suggest why video won't work with Voipfone?

2 years ago was, I guess, too early for video phones but now it is becoming much more common.

Having looked in to this further we can see that H263 codecs are enabled but probably will not work very well.

We need to implement H263 support for the whole of the new network you may be lucky and find that it will sometimes work it would just depend on what server you are connecting to at the time

We will get this rolled out network wide but cant provide you with a time scale at the moment as we are currently busy finishing off our IVR system.
