Registration failures on sip.voipfone.co.uk

#1
Now, I don't know if it's this GXP-2000 phone being a pain again or some problem with voipfone but ever since I switched over to the "sip.voipfone.co.uk" proxy it keeps losing it's registration every few minutes. Using the old proxy it works fine for days on end. Could it be some kind of NAT issue? I notice the old proxy had the "nat.voipfone.co.uk" proxy but the new one doesn't? Every time a simple reboot and it registers again immediately. The old fix of upping the registration interval from 1 to 2 minutes doesn't seem to change anything this time.

It's really very annoying and I'm missing calls because of it so I'd really appreciate any tips.

Thanks!

As an update...I just enabled the "stun" option and it seems to have kept the registration now. Are there any reasons why this is a bad idea?

Just to check here are some screen captures of the configuration of the GXP-2000 on the voipfone line before I enabled the stun. Anything wrong?

STUN didn't work afterall! I've increased the reg interval to 2 mins and tweaked a couple of other settings. Seems to have been solid all last night so fingers crossed....

The odd thing is this phone works fine with sipgate, voipdiscount and used to work with the old voipfone proxy. Anyway, hopefully that's it sorted!

Remove sip.voipfone.co.uk from the outbound proxy field save changes and monitor your registrations if you still have registration issues then you will need to add nat.voipfone.co.uk:5065 to the outbound proxy field then save changes and reboot.

I also checked your other settings and noticed the following

Send DTMF should be set to use via rtp rfc2833

Default codec should be set to PCMA

Stun server should be blank and not displaying sipgates stun server

Hope this helps

You may also want to update your phones firmware.

I have the latest BETA firmware (v 1.1.1.9) set-up on a webserver. Just configure your phone for HTTP update, and enter "www.omiran.co.uk/GXP2000" in the Firmware Server Path. After re-booting your phone it will flash the firmware to version 1.1.1.9.

Before flashing, you may want to check the Grandstream Release Notes at http://www.grandstream.com/BETATEST/GXP ... .1.1.9.pdf especially the section in RED at the very start which informs you that, if you are currently at firmware version 1.0.1.x to 1.0.2.x, you must first make an interim upgrade to firmware version 1.1.0.16 before upgrading to version 1.1.1.9).

Thanks, voipfone, for the info on the settings to change. I've updated it with the nat.voipfone.co.uk and also the registration interval set to 2 mins instead of 1 min. It's been fine the past 12 hours so hopefully that's that.

Jerry, thanks for this...I already updated the firmware to v 1.1.0.13 but didn't go further as I read there were audio quality issues on the later versions and it wasn't possible to downgrade. How do you find this latest version?

Here's the website I read about the audio problems:

I've seen many complaints posted about the GXP-2000, concerning audio quality, speakerphone quality & volume, display problems, phone freezing-up etc. - but none of these "bugs" have ever noticeably affected my phone or its usage.

For the latest firmware for this phone, go to http://www.grandstream.com/BETATEST/GXP2000_BT200/
