Codecs switching

#1
Hi,

I'm Voipfone PBX customer. And I'd like to switch currently used codec from G.711 to another one. I'd prefer G.729 if it's possible. So, how can I do that? Should I change codec type on my side only? Or I can switch the codec to another one using PBX interface?

wbr,
Serg

You can change the setting in your phone. It can't be changed via the PBX settings.

We don't support G729 though i'm afriad.

Do you still not support G729; and is there a plan to do so?

Thanks
We don't support G729 and have no plans to do so.

I'm just wondering if the situation might change now. Was the decision not to support G729 a technical one, or based on the patents which have now expired? (See below)
As of January 1, 2017 the patent terms of most Licensed Patents under the G.729 Consortium have expired, the remaining unexpired patents are usable on a royalty-free basis.[7] Thus, G.729 can be used free-of-charge.
