|
|
Ofcom has anounced today that it is changing the price of calls to 0870 from around 8p per minute to no more than an ordinary national call. This will remove the revenue sharing possibilities which are the main reason why companies use them and why customers generally dislike them.
http://www.ofcom.org.uk/media/news/2006/ 04/nr_20060419
They were originally intended for use by companies offering value added services to their customers but have been fairly widely abused (in my opinion!) by companies making them their normal customer contact number.
The changes aren't likely to happen until January 2008. _________________ Colin Duffy, CEO, Voipfone |

| All this will do is force people using 0870 numbers to go for 0871 numbers costing us more! |

You are right Colin about the abuse........... It has made people think twice about using any number which they don't recognise as a local registered exchange number.
I have a hard time convincing people that the real telephone number issued by VoIPFONE as a service to anyone registered with your company is not a SCAM to rip off the caller....
Even the 01904 898040 I have created with Gradwell is treated with suspicion " I don't think I have ever seen a YORK number with those digits, must be a high charge number " is a comment that is often quoted to me.....
