Hey,
I currently use Skype for my business phone, but after 9 months of fairly shoddy service (mostly with call quality, reliability and software problems) I'm looking to move.
I've set up a voipfone account, and been trying some tests (using the 152 number), but I'm not really sure on the call quality. I'm currently getting anywhere from about 250ms to 2 seconds of delay (fairly randomly), the audio also drops out for a second or so quite regularly (although only for me, the people I've called said the don't hear any drops). However the people I've called have said that there is a buzzing noise in the background (which I don't hear my end, although I do on the echo test).
Is there anything I can do about any of this? These are the results from WinMTR:

| At the moment I'm finding that when I do the echo test, the latency is excellent (probably around 250ms) at the beginning of the call, but once you get around 40 seconds in it drops to 1-1.5 seconds. This is happening fairly consistently. Any ideas why? |

You should be getting round trip times of less that 50ms - any more than that and there is a fault somewhere. At over 100ms speech becomes unuseable. Try contacting your ISP. _________________ Regards

I've been investigating my router, and no matter what I try, I cant seem to get port 5060 open correctly and forwarding to my PC. I've tried everything I can think of (port forwarding, open all ports etc.), nothing works. I've read elsewhere that it may use port 5060 for its own internal functions, and is therefore intercepting all packets on 5060.
Could this be the reason for the delay? |

| Also, should my latency closely match my ping times to sip.voipfone.co.uk? I'm currently getting around 41ms pings. |
