See this glowing review from Digital Lifestyles who lost their Skype number too:
http://digital-lifestyles.info/2007/12/1 7/voipfone-save-yourself-from-skypein/
If you are reading this you are probably aware that Skype are abandoning many of their 0207 numbers after a dispute with their number provider. This leaves many Skype users needing to change their number quickly which can be both inconvenient and expensive, particularly if you have your number printed on business cards and stationery.
However, if you need to keep your number, transferring it to us is quick, and easy and also FREE. You'll find instructions here:
http://www.voipfone.co.uk/skype.php
There is some confusion and urban legend about who owns these numbers and what is legal and what isn’t. So here are the facts. All UK telephone numbers are owned by Ofcom and allocated to licensed operators. In the case of these 0207 numbers they are allocated to Gamma Telecom Ltd.
We, Voipfone, are customers of Gamma Telecomm Ltd and have a porting arrangement with them. All that is required for your 0207 (or many other Skype numbers) to be transferred to our network is your signed request for us to do it.
The process is normally complete within 24 hours and totally free for Skype users.
Please read more about it and follow the instructions here:

Update:
Just to keep you informed, Gamma Telecom, after consulting with their lawyers, have confirmed that all ports will continue as normal.
Porting requests made on Friday and, today (Monday) will be enabled this afternoon and new requests will be dealt with as they are received which should be within 24 hours - workload permitting. _________________ Regards

Update:
All ported numbers are now working and new ports will continue as usual.
Thank you for your patience while Gamma's lawyers did their work.
You may also wish to know that we have designed a free offer so that new Skype users can find out what we do - see:

The information on the sample letter, here:
https://www.voipfone.co.uk/skype.php
is a bit confusing. It asks for skype name and account number. Surely skype name is enough, as I don't think there is a Skype number, other than the one that is quoted for porting.
Have I missed something? |

You're right that is confusing - we really only need 'name' - I'll get it changed. _________________ Regards

Update:
The porting fee, which was already at a reduced rate compared to our usual porting fee – has now been further reduced.
Users wishing to port their number from Skype can now do so free of charge – you’ll just pay our usual charge of £1.99 (ex VAT) per month for rental of the number once it’s been ported over. _________________ Regards

I've only just become aware of the Skypein situation (they did not contact me!) and my 0207 number has now gone dead 10 days after the Dec 20th deadline..
Does your porting relationship with GCI account for this and is there any hope to re-capture my number? I faxed you this morning to request a transfer..
The SKYPE procedure for this has been shameful - usual story, printed literature etc ..
How does the situation look?
Thanks. |

We should be able to port your number even if it's been cancelled by Skype. _________________ Regards
