New Feature – Line & Number Presentation
We are regularly asked for a feature that enables you to see which of your telephone numbers is being called instead of the number of the person calling you. ie display Called Line ID instead of Calling Line ID on your phone.
This can be a very useful feature because with Voipfone you can have as many numbers on your account as you want but sometimes you need to know which one of them your caller dialled.
For example, if you run more than one business but only have one telephone, you will want to answer the phone with the correct business name. You may want to offer different telephone numbers for different marketing campaigns you are running or you may just want to give every member of your family their own number so you know who needs to answer it.
How does it work?
Users of our Virtual Switchboard (PBX) will see the feature enabled already in their account under ‘Inbound Number Set-Up’. There you will see each of your telephone numbers and a ‘Line Presentation’ tick box.
If you tick the box next to the number you wish to see when it is called, that number will be displayed on your phone instead of the normal CLI. Your other numbers will not be affected.
Your call records will still show the normal CLI, so if you really need to know who called as well as the number that was called, you can find it there.
For customers who do not yet use the PBX service, you simply need to buy one telephone extension from the package builder – 99p per month (including VAT).

Then configure your numbers as you wish. More information here:

Useful Tip
If your telephone has an integrated address book, enter each number you wish to be displayed into it along with an appropriate name eg, 'Cheery Widgits ltd’, ‘call for Jim’ or ‘sales’ etc. When the number is called, the name, not the number, will appear on the phone. So far we've tested this trick on the Snom and it works fine - if you find others let us know. _________________ Regards

| Not to be negative, but why don't Voipfone do what all the other providers do, and pass CLI Text to the phone as well as the calling number -- best of both worlds! |

Yeah - I *really* need to see both the caller and called line ID.
Can we get an ETA for this feature?
Also, at some point I would like to hook the phone system up with our CRM system - can you tell me what information is available via the API - for example are both caller and called line ID available?
Cheers,
Justin

Not yet - everything comes to he who waits. If you add it to the suggested feature list it will join the queue.
We will be having a big push on new features in the next few months so add it in and, well, wait. _________________ Regards

Ok, I'll put it on the list.
Just out of interest, how many developers do you have?
There seem to be an awful lot of very enthusiastic and demanding users clamouring for new features - which is great - but could easily turn into a lot of very enthusiastic and demanding users switching to a rival service if you don't move quickly enough
If the problem is too much work and too few coders then there is a simple solution... If you don't have the cash to expand, I'm sure you wouldn't have to look far for external investors
Cheers,
Justin
